Acceptable Identifications

You may use:
** The ID must be CURRENT or has been ISSUED within the past 5 years **
1. California Driver’s License or I.D. card.
2. Driver’s License or I.D. card from any US state.
3. Driver’s License issued in Mexico or Canada.
4. An employee ID card issued by a city and/or county or the state of California.
5. US Passport
** adult passports are current for 10 years. Minor passports are current for 5 years. **
6. Foreign Passport
** Must be stamped by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS). **
7. U.S. military I.D. card
** California notaries can’t accept The Common Access Card (CAC) due to it does not
contain the signature of the bearer on either front or back of the card. **
8. Inmate Identification Card – must be issued by Department of Corrections
** Can only be used if the inmate is in custody. **
9. I.D. card issued by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS).
** This I.D. can’t be used with loan document. **
** This ID can only for notarization of USCIS forms (Government Code, Section 8230) **
You may not use:
• Social Security card
• Credit card
• Temporary driver's license
• Any ID without a photograph and physical description
• The Common Access Card (CAC) from US Military.
